Introduction to the Business English Communication (International Program)
Faculty of Liberal Arts and the BEC International Program
The Faculty of Liberal Arts was founded in 1961 by Professor Dr. Adul Wichiencharoen, who was also the first Dean of the Faculty. Faculty members shared the commitment to all students receiving a liberal education before they enter their major field of studies. The faculty was committed to students developing a better understanding of different societies and cultures. Students should acquire a deeper knowledge of philosophy and the arts which would enhance the ability of students to think rationally and logically.
At present, the Faculty of Liberal Arts has 14 departments, which offer regular academic courses. These courses include foreign languages in addition to 8 other courses dealing with the social sciences and the humanities. During the last ten years, the Faculty has offered another three special undergraduate programs, namely British American Studies, Southeast Asian Studies, and Russian Studies.
However, 14 traditional subject areas and three social science and humanities special programs are not enough to serve the increasing demands of modern Thai society which has become increasingly business oriented and cosmopolitan. Consequently, the Faculty of Liberal Arts decided to introduce another program which combines English language communication skills with the provision of a basic knowledge of business transactions, economics, public relations, intercultural communication, international law, human resource management and information technology in order to equip students for careers in the business community. This program is not only significant part of liberal education which the Faculty of Liberal Arts has long established, but also a challenge for people of the new generation who want to be successful in the dynamic world of business transactions and communication.
